One typical workday morning a few days back, as I was chewing down my breakfast groggily, mum dropped a stunner on me.

"Give me 25k, I am opening a karaoke"

My breakfast almost went up my nose.

Mum has been talking about opening a karaoke with a few friends for a while now. I never took her seriously. It is not as if we have the extra cash to indulge in such a project. Running a karaoke, to me, is a labour intensive and capital intensive venture.

Mum insisted that she has enough funds, investors and customer pool. I can't deny that my mum does have an extensive social circle. And now, she has found the perfect location to run her business.

She is enthusiastic and confident. And wanted me to have a share in it.

I froze.. and then protested, and insulted.. and rationalized... FOR A FEW DAYS.

To cut the long story short, despite my (and my sis's) violent protests, mum went ahead with it.

"My friends all support me why you don't support me!?"

She is mad. Since I can't stop her, I shall join her in her madness. And I invited a few friends along too. No, we are not inve$ting in her company, merely offering our brains, energy and resources.

I shall hereby document the process of setting up Jolly Mama Karaoke. My (well, sort of) first business venture.

God help us.
